I was praying about the phrase “after this manner therefore pray” right before the Lord’s prayer in Matthew chapter six. Then in a matter of just a few steps on my prayer walk, I was floored with a ton of revelation. It was so awesome that I was awestruck for quite some time. I then realized the info that was ‘downloaded’ was very important in the Christian walk. It should be the goal of every Christian.
It was simply - truth.
Jesus pointed out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders of the day several times throughout His ministry. The top theologians of the day had Jesus crucified. Why would religious leaders kill their Messiah? They didn’t want to lose their place or their nation (John 11:48). It is spelled out right there in scripture. But the funny thing is, in the long haul, they are losing big time. Would you sacrifice eternity just to keep your job?
For some reason, these people thought it was better to reject the truth rather than to accept it. It really doesn’t make any sense to me right now. Why would people prefer hell? How could that be profitable in any stretch of the imagination?
Oh well. Their actions are examples for what we should not do. And for that I am grateful. We must learn from their mistakes.
The bottom line is they were pretending to have a relationship with the truth when they did not have it. Therefore Jesus called them hypocrites. They pretended to love and protect the truth, when all they were really doing is rejecting it.
Have you ever wondered why the people that were killing Christians used the same scriptures that people use to get people to become Christians? The difference is the spirit of truth. Yes truth is a spirit (John 14:17).
I have a good point here so pay attention.
You can read the bible all you want. But if you don’t let the spirit of truth guide you into all truth (John 16:13), you might as well be reading Shakespeare! Well it really isn’t that bad but it is bad! The carnal mind just can’t arrive by deduction at the truths of God.
The spirit of Truth - Better not miss out!
